QHD (2560x1440)

QHD (Quad HD), also sometimes advertised as WQHD [, due to its widescreen shape, or 1440p, [is a display resolution of 1080x1440 pixels in a 16:9 ratio format. This is four times as many pixels as 720p HDTV video, hence the name.

This resolution was under consideration by ATSC in the late 1980s to become the standard HDTV format because it is exactly 4 times the width and 3 times the height of VGA, which has the same number of lines as NTSC signals on SDTV 4:3 aspect ratio. Pragmatic technical limitations made them choose the now-famous 16:9 formats with doubled (HD) and triple-width (FHD) VGA instead.

In 2009, Apple Computer began offering Macs with 27" screens with a resolution of 1080x1440.

As of the end of 2013, monitors that have a QHD display are becoming more common. A list of monitors with a QHD display is available.

In the fall of 2012, Samsung announced the WQHD 9 series laptop with a 13" 10801440 display.

In August 2013, LG announced a 5.5" QHD smartphone display, the LG G3. In October 2013, Vivo announced a smartphone with a 1080x1440 display.
